Q: What is eCare?
A: UW Medicine eCare is a single, secure resource you can use to view and manage your UW Medicine medical records online. This includes your medical records from clinic visits or hospital stays within the UW Medicine health system. The UW Medicine Health System includes UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, the UW Neighborhood Clinics and other UW Medicine-affiliated clinics. UW Medicine eCare is a quick and convenient way to manage your health information any time you need it.
Q: How do I log on to UW Medicine eCare?
A: Choose one of the options above that correlates with the type and location of your care. You can view medical records from your hospital stays (inpatient) and your clinic visits (outpatient). You will need different user names and passwords to view records from your hospital stays and your clinic visits. You will be given information on how to log on and view these records by the clinic staff in person during your visit or by email from the hospital staff after your stay.
Q: When I go to the UW Medicine eCare page, how do I know which option to click?
A: On the left of the UW Medicine eCare log-on page you will see a list called “Clinic Visits”. Choose an option here if you want to see your medical record from a visit to a UW Neighborhood Clinic or other clinic affiliated with UW Medicine, or a clinic inside a UW Medicine hospital like UW Medical Center, Harborview, Northwest Hospital or Valley Medical Center.
On the right, you will see a list called “Hospital Stays”. If you stayed at a hospital on this list, you will be able to find your medical records for each hospital by clicking on the name of the facility. In some cases, certain lab work or diagnostic procedures may be included in the your “hospital stay” medical record, even if you did not stay in the hospital overnight. If you are unsure where to look for your medical record, please check with clinic staff or the hospital’s health information management (medical records) department.
Q: Some of the online medical records have other names on them like MyChart or Cerner. What is the difference between these and eCare?
A: UW Medicine eCare is a central location to find all your UW Medicine medical records. Once you have entered UW Medicine eCare, you may need to log on separately to view your inpatient records and outpatient records. Several of the hospitals and clinics in the UW Medicine health system used different software programs to make your medical records available to you online. These software programs have names like Cerner or MyChart, but all of them are part of UW Medicine eCare.
Q: Who can sign up for UW Medicine eCare?
A: You have to be a patient at a UW Medicine-affiliated clinic or hospital. As a parent, legal guardian or caretaker, you may also have permission to view medical records for a minor or other person.
Q: I am a new patient at UW Medicine. Am I required to have a UW Medicine eCare account?
A: While we encourage patients to use eCare to log on and view their medical records, it is not a requirement to receive care at any UW Medicine clinic or facility.
Q: I went to the emergency room (ER). Will I receive a UW Medicine eCare account?
A: At this time only emergency room patients who are admitted to the hospital are able to register for an eCare account to view their online medical records.
Q: Can I use one username and password for my inpatient medical records and my outpatient medical records?
A: You will need different user names and passwords to view records from your hospital stays and your clinic visits. You will be given information on how to log on and view each type of record by the clinic staff in person during your visit or by email from the hospital staff after your stay. In some cases, users may be able to establish their own user names and passwords to log on to view different types of medical records.
Q: Do you have an iPhone, Android, or Windows Phone app?
A: Some of the software UW Medicine has used to allow you to view your medical records online also has applications (or apps) for your mobile phone, while some software does not. Currently, there is an app for iPhone or Android mobile phones that allows you to view your outpatient medical records. However, you can still get to all your online medical records on your smartphone even without an app. Just type
uwmedicine.org/ecare into the browser on your smartphone and choose the type of medical record you want to view. You will need your log-in information to view your medical records on your smartphone.
Q: What are the computer requirements for using UW Medicine eCare?
A: The software for each type of online medical record may require different computer and software features to work properly. In general, however, you should have one or more of the following browsers on your computer: Internet Explorer (version 9 or higher); the latest version of Google Chrome; latest version of Firefox.
