COVID-19 Testing at Orcas Island Clinic
Beginning in July, the UW Medicine Orcas Island Clinic will no longer be the COVID-19 designated testing site for all Orcas Islanders. The clinic will discontinue testing non-UW Medicine Orcas Island Clinic patients. The Orcas Family Health Center has now resumed full operations and will be testing its symptomatic patients for COVID-19 as well as caring for its established patients.
UW Medicine Orcas Island Clinic patients with COVID-19 symptoms can be tested at the clinic. We will also continue to test symptomatic Orcas Island visitors and well as seasonal residents.
Vital primary care services for the Orcas Island community
UW Medicine was pleased to begin offering medical care to island residents at the Orcas Island Clinic in 2017.
Partnering with the Orcas Medical Foundation, our clinic offers comprehensive primary care services and acute illness and injury care for the entire family as well as digital X-ray capabilities, advanced lab testing and a Virtual Clinic kiosk for urgent care needs.
We’re proud to ensure that high-quality medical care and information are available to all members of the Orcas Island community.
To help residents better understand the transition to UW Medicine from the clinic previously managed by Island Hospital, we developed a list of Frequently Asked Questions.
We accept most major insurance plans. Make your appointment for primary care services today.
A note about patient safety:
UW Medicine is committed to providing care in the safest environment possible. We demonstrate our commitment by washing our hands before examinations, asking you to confirm your identity by verifying your name and date of birth at key times and asking you to confirm the medications and allergies listed in your medical record to avoid errors, allergic reactions and drug interactions.
Our clinics do not provide supervision for children, but we are concerned for their safety during your visit. You or a responsible person must directly supervise children at all times while in the building. Please do not allow children to play near equipment, as they could injure themselves or damage the equipment.
A message to the public:
The Orcas Island Hospital District (OIHD) has posted a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking a partner to help merge and manage the UW Medicine Orcas Clinic and Orcas Family Health Center both located on Orcas Island. The goal is to create a model that is more efficient and sustainable for the community, and we fully support OIHD’s plan.
While we support this effort, UW Medicine continues to experience extraordinary demands related to the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result, are not in a position to apply for this expanded RFP. We’ve been honored to serve the Orcas community for the last few years by providing high-quality primary care. We are proud of what or team has been able to accomplish for the Orcas community. We will continue to care for our patients and manage the clinic under our current contract while working with OIHD, our clinic team and future partners to ensure a smooth management transition, should that become necessary.
We hope that everyone is keeping safe and healthy during these challenging times.
