Susan E. Collins, Ph.D. (she/her), is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in addiction psychology and harm reduction for substance use. Dr. Collins strives to deliver patient-driven care to support people in reducing the harm they experience when they use substances and improving their quality of life -- on their own terms and timelines. Dr. Collins is also a mother, a wife, a sister, and a daughter embedded in families affected by the intergenerational experience of substance use disorder. Her family’s and her own lived experiences drive her desire to reduce the stigma of addictive behaviors and meet people where they are in all aspects of her work. Years ago, Dr. Collins chose sobriety as her own means of reducing harm, but harm reduction does not require sobriety, and she helps patients embrace their own pathway to better living on their own terms and timelines. She also teaches and conducts research at the Harm Reduction Research and Treatment (HaRRT) Center.
She enjoys knitting, downhill skiing, foraging, cooking with her family, and working in the community to bring greater equity and peace. She has her roots in the dance and gothic communities.
