Charles Alpers, M.D., is a board certified pathologist at UW Medical Center and UW's interim chair and Fausto-DeLancey Professor of Pathology and adjunct professor of Medicine and Nephrology. He directs UW Medicine's Renal Pathology Service.

Dr. Alpers is regularly listed as a Seattle Metropolitan Best Doctor. Dr. Alpers' personal philosophy is that he must ensure that comprehensive, state-of-the-art approaches for understanding renal pathology are available to all in the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Alpers earned his M.D. from the University of Rochester. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and has served as president of the Renal Pathology Society. He is an editor for multiple medical publications and wrote the chapters on kidney disease in the two most widely used textbooks of pathology used by medical students worldwide.

In his free time Dr. Alpers enjoys bicycling, hiking and visiting national parks.
