About Basar Sarikaya

Basar Sarikaya, MD, is an associate professor of radiology (neuroradiology) at the University of Washington.

Dr. Sarikaya earned his MD from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey, where he also completed his radiology residency. He subsequently completed a research fellowship on advanced MRI methods at Duke University and ACGME-accredited fellowships in neuroradiology and vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Sarikaya joined the University of Washington Department of Radiology in 2019 as an Acting Instructor and Senior Fellow in Neuroradiology. He later served as the inaugural overnight attending in Emergency Radiology for the UW Medicine enterprise (2020–2023), helping establish and develop the overnight emergency radiology service across the system.

His clinical and research interests include advanced MRI methods including diffusion tensor imaging, neurovascular imaging and cerebrovascular disease, diffusion tensor imaging. Dr. Sarikaya is also deeply committed to medical education and prioritizes the clinical training of radiology residents and neuroradiology fellows. Prior to joining UW Medicine, Dr. Sarikaya held academic and clinical appointments in his home country, Turkiye, including serving as Department Chair of Radiology at Yeditepe University Medical School in Istanbul.

Dr. Sarikaya enjoys reading, listening to classical music, and spending time with his family.
