Alex Greninger, MD, PhD, MS, MPhil, is the Head of the Division of Infectious Disease Diagnostics (DIDD) at the University of Washington Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, which integrates the Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, and Virology sections. As the Larry Corey Endowed Professor, he leads efforts to advance the science and practice of infectious disease diagnostics through innovation and collaboration.
Dr. Greninger also directs the Clinical Trials Laboratory, which performs central laboratory testing for the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN), and many other sponsors and partners. It has contributed significantly to global research efforts that have shaped responses to a variety of infectious diseases. His research focuses on genomically informed approaches to diagnosing and treating a variety of infectious diseases, including respiratory viruses, human herpesviruses, emerging RNA viruses, and sexually transmitted infections.
At UW Medicine’s South Lake Union campus, the Greninger Lab combines molecular innovation, computational biology, and translational science to improve real-world infectious disease detection and management. Dr. Greninger earned his MD and PhD from UC San Francisco, MS in Immunology from Stanford University, and MPhil in Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge.
