I love using all the medical knowledge and skills imparted to me in delivering a compassionate care to the patients with organ failure (kidney, liver and pancreas). I am honored and blessed to work and take care of the people and the family donating "Gifts of Life" (whole or part) and who are the foundation of the field of transplantation, redefining the meaning of "LIFE" forever.

Dr. Bakthavatsalam is a UW associate professor of surgery and urology. His interests are abdominal organ transplantation (liver, kidney and pancreas) including living donation and complex retroperitoneal and uro-oncologic surgery and surgery for portal hypertension. He earned his M.D. at Madras Medical College in India and completed a residency there before embarking on a series of surgical fellowships in London and Ireland. He also completed the transplant fellowship here at the UW from 1999 to 2001.
