About Brad T. Cookson
Brad Cookson, M.D., Ph.D. is a board certified pathologist at UW Medicine who leads the UW’s Clinical Microbiology Division and Molecular and Next Gen Microbiology Laboratory. He is a UW professor of Laboratory Medicine and Microbiology.
Dr. Cookson uses the latest technologies to diagnose infectious diseases, understand how pathogens cause infection and understand the cellular basis of inflammation. With his staff, he supports delivery of the best possible patient care by continuously improving the ability to diagnose disease and design effective treatments, which together provide outstanding value and the highest quality outcomes for patients.
Dr. Cookson earned his M.D. at Washington University. He and his talented staff work with faculty collaborators in the Department of Laboratory Medicine to develop detection systems, including Clinical Next Generation Sequencing, for diagnosing bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections. The goal is to improve the diagnosis and medical management of patients suffering from infectious diseases.
