Specialized care for you and your newborn
Welcoming a new baby is a memorable time for you and your family. The dedicated team at UW Medicine ensures you have the best possible pregnancy and delivery experience. You can also count on us to provide specialized attention and expert support for your newborn.
During your stay at our birth center, our pediatric team will provide care for your newborn and answer any questions you may have. Should your baby need a higher level of care, our neonatologists are also here to support your newborn.
Nurturing first hour
Our team is committed to respecting your baby’s first hour after birth. We encourage immediate skin-to-skin contact and create a safe space for uninterrupted bonding with your baby.
Thoughtful care
Your baby’s overall health is our priority. We will review the basics of newborn care with you and conduct a series of screenings to evaluate your baby’s overall health. We also provide your baby with essential medications and vaccines.
Breastfeeding support
Our birth centers have lactation specialists and nurses who are trained to provide support for you and help provide nutritional care for your baby. Learn more
Care beyond the hospital
Choosing a pediatrician or family care provider is very important, and you must select one before you arrive for labor. Your baby will visit their provider for their first checkup shortly after they are born. Our team will share a complete record of your child’s birth and hospital stay with your new pediatric provider to ensure a smooth transition of care beyond the hospital.
To find the right provider for your baby, think about what matters most. Consider these factors:
- Appointment times offered (including evening and weekend options)
- Office location
- Lactation services
You can also ask for recommendations from your pregnancy care team, primary care physician or other new parents you trust. If you stay with UW Medicine, we have multiple options for you.
