Single Women and the LGBT Community

Our clinic welcomes working with single women, same-sex partnered women and transgendered persons on the path to pregnancy. We recognize that most of the time you will not be experiencing infertility and are seeking help with the various options for conception. Our clinic is supportive and knowledgeable about these choices. In the case of infertility or difficulty conceiving, we offer full diagnostic and treatment services within our integrated system up to and including in vitro fertilization.

Use of donor sperm

There are two options for the use of donor sperm – either anonymous or known donor. Both donation types are regulated by the FDA to ensure the samples are free from infectious disease. Anonymous sperm is purchased from a sperm cryobank. Donors have been rigorously screened and tested for infectious disease prior to donation. The sperm is then quarantined for a six-month period and the donor is retested before the sperm can be released for use. The same standards apply when using the sperm of a known donor who is not your sexual intimate. (Another term for a known donor is a directed donor.) The Male Fertility Lab can work with you and your donor directly to complete the process to ready the sperm for use.

Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)

Intra-uterine insemination is a simple procedure in which prepared sperm is placed directly inside the uterus, in the optimal location to fertilize the egg. It is one of the most common fertility procedures that single women and/or lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons will utilize.
