Membership and services


UW Medicine is partnering with 98point6, a Seattle-based company, to provide on-demand, text-based medical care through the convenience of an app. With the 98point6 app, you can access U.S.-based, board-certified doctors from 98point6 who diagnose and provide treatment, outline care options, order prescriptions and labs as appropriate, and offer personalized consultation. Your care is coordinated with UW Medicine care teams.


98point6’s staff are carefully selected, board-certified physicians who are passionate about making primary care more accessible and affordable to everyone. Their physicians are all U.S.-based and have been trained in best-practices to diagnose and treat via in-app, text-based care.


UW Medicine On-Demand Virtual Care with 98point6 is available for adults ages 18 and older (a subscription fee applies). When you subscribe, you are agreeing to receive coordinated care with UW Medicine, and your 98point6 visits will be shared with your UW Medicine care team.


No. Currently, the 98point6 product is only available to adults ages 18 and older. The service is not set up to address concerns for children, minors or other dependents.


You may access care using the 98point6 app after agreeing to care coordination with UW Medicine. Once you have agreed, simply click on the link to proceed to download the 98point6 app. Please note, a subscription fee applies.

IMPORTANT: You need to use the attribution link to download the 98point6 app and have care coordinated with UW Medicine. If you download the app directly from the app stores, you will not have care coordinated with UW Medicine.


UW Medicine On-Demand Virtual Care with 98point6 involves text-based visits with 98point6 physicians. The visits are available 24/7 for many minor illnesses like the flu.

UW Medicine Telemedicine Visits are scheduled one-on-one video visits with a UW Medicine primary care doctor or specialist. The appointments are a covered benefit for most insurance plans that are billed to your health insurance in a similar way that in-person appointments are billed. These video-based appointments are available for you and your family for follow-up care, management of chronic conditions and medications, and consultations on general health concerns or specialty care, including COVID-19.

98point6 offers unlimited care through an affordable annual subscription plan:

  • Introductory subscription: pay $30 for three months, plus $1 per visit

  • Annual subscription: after the introductory subscription, pay $120 for 12 months, plus $1 per visit


No. Patients pay an annual subscription fee for unlimited visits.


If you were previously enrolled in the Virtual Clinic provided by our partner, Amwell (prior to Dec. 1, 2020), you will need to subscribe to our new service with 98point6. Visit On-Demand Virtual Care to get started.


If you have an active 98point6 subscription and would like to participate in care coordination with UW Medicine:

  • Visit On-Demand Virtual Care , agree to care coordination with UW Medicine, and click the “get the 98point6 app” link. Your existing 98point6 account will be updated automatically.

If you have an inactive 98point6 account and would like to participate in care coordination with UW Medicine:

  • Visit On-Demand Virtual Care , agree to care coordination with UW Medicine, and click the “get the app” link. At the sign-in screen in the 98point6 app, select “Renew your Subscription.” Your previous 98point6 account will be restored and your profile will be configured to participate in UW Medicine care coordination.

  • Note: To renew, a subscription fee applies. 98point6 offers unlimited care through an affordable annual subscription plan:
     
    • Introductory subscription: pay $30 for three months, plus $1 per visit

    • Annual subscription: after the introductory subscription, pay $120 for 12 months, plus $1 per visit

If you are currently enrolled in a 98point6 subscription sponsored by your employer or health plan, you may also be able to participate in UW Medicine care coordination:

  • Visit On-Demand Virtual Care , agree to care coordination with UW Medicine, and click the “get the 98point6 app” link. Your existing 98point6 account will be automatically enrolled in UW Medicine care coordination if the service is available.

  • Note: Depending on your sponsored subscription, care coordination may not be an option.

  • To confirm enrollment, go to the Manage Subscription screen in the 98point6 app and verify under Plan Options. 


98point6 is unable to directly bill patient insurance. If your treatment plan includes a prescription, a referral or labs, your health insurance may pay for these expenses. Claim processes differ among insurers, so please contact your insurance company’s claim department directly.

Treatment and prescriptions


After hours, on the go, or urgently, UW Medicine On-Demand Virtual Care with 98point6 is available 24/7/365. 98point6 physicians can diagnose and treat many common illnesses and injuries, such as:

  • Allergies
  • Cold or sinus infections
  • COVID-19 concerns
  • Fevers
  • Influenza (flu)
  • Headaches
  • Heartburn or acid reflux
  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • Sprains or Strains
  • Urinary tract infections (UTI)

98point6 physicians can also support chronic conditions with you and your UW Medicine physician, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma or depression/anxiety. They can also advise on questions and concerns around smoking cessation, sleep issues and more.

Note: For COVID-19 related concerns, we recommend first using the UW Medicine Virtual Assistant to see if you need to be tested for COVID-19. Otherwise, a 98point6 physician may refer you back to UW Medicine for testing if indicated.


UW Medicine On-Demand Virtual Care with 98point6 is not for emergency care or life-threatening conditions such as stroke. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911.

Virtual care is not appropriate for visits where a physical examination is required.

A 98point6 subscription should not replace a relationship with a primary care doctor. If you need a primary care doctor, UW Medicine can help you find one.

UW Medicine On-Demand Virtual Care with 98point6 can be used to receive diagnosis and treatment for many common illnesses and injuries via secure, in-app messaging, perhaps saving you a trip to your family physician. However, virtual visits should not replace a relationship with a primary care doctor.

Find a doctor


When clinically appropriate, 98point6 physicians can prescribe medications to treat your medical concern; it is not intended for prescription refills. If you need a prescription refill, we recommend that you speak with your primary care doctor or specialist. Short-term prescription refills for indicated conditions may be issued in select cases. Commonly prescribed medications include antibiotics when indicated, allergy medications, anti-nausea medications and various skin creams or ointments.

98point6 physicians will not prescribe controlled substances (such as Vicodin or Percocet) or lifestyle medications (such as Viagra and Propecia).


Prescriptions are electronically transmitted during or immediately following a 98point6 visit. 98point6 recommends patients call their pharmacy to confirm medications are ready for pickup. Depending on the pharmacy, prescriptions can be filled within an hour of receiving the script.

Yes. You can access medical care via the mobile app from anywhere in the U.S. (50 states and Washington D.C.).


No appointment is needed with this service — it’s on-demand. Since visits are text-based, you can get private diagnosis and treatment — anytime, anywhere — and as often as you need.

UW Medicine and 98point6 care coordination


Care coordination with UW Medicine means 98point6 will share information about your visit with UW Medicine to keep your medical record up to date and your care team current with your health. After your 98point6 visit, the care plan (a summary of your visit with the doctor, including diagnosis and recommendations) will be sent electronically to UW Medicine’s Health Information team to add to your Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

All information from your 98point6 visit that is shared with UW Medicine is done so in ways that are safe, secure and HIPAA compliant. Your privacy and rights will be respected and ensured. To become a patient, visit uwmedicine.org/meet-us and learn about our primary care services.


Care coordination with UW Medicine is designed to help our patients and clinical care teams avoid unnecessary testing and treatment, and it assures timely access to further care when needed. UW Medicine care teams employ evidence-based preventive measures to identify and treat underlying health problems before they become chronic conditions. With integrated data and information sharing, each clinician treating a patient has greater access to the latest information about the patient. This model enables integrated, coordinated scheduling and communication with patients, and it helps to improve patient outcomes and confidence in the care they receive.


98point6 Care Plans (after visit summary and treatment plan) from your visit are shared with your UW Medicine care team. This is so that all of your medical information is in one place and your UW Medicine care team can better help you. A transcript of your visit with 98point6 is accessible at any time from within the 98point6 app.

If in-person care is necessary, you’ll be referred to a primary care doctor or specialist, or an emergency or urgent care center within the UW Medicine network, as appropriate.


No. 98point6 physicians do not have access to your UW Medicine medical record or UW Medicine systems.

Their applications and cloud services are designed to conform with the latest industry security standards and safeguards of protected health information.
