UW Medicine Transfer Center

888-731-4791 (toll-free), 24 hours a day.

Every day and around the clock, the UW Medicine Transfer Center works with physicians and transport staff to rapidly, safely transfer patients with emergent or urgent illness or injury from healthcare facilities in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho to UW Medicine hospitals in the Seattle area.

The Transfer Center also gives doctors immediate, 24/7 access to UW Medicine specialists who can provide medical consultation, including reviewing radiology images sent electronically.

Protocols and guidelines

To maximize the chances of survival and good outcomes, we recommend clinically proven stabilization protocols for transporting patients with potentially life-threatening conditions.

What to expect

  • A Transfer Center nurse helps coordinate all aspects of a patient’s transfer.
  • We partner with Airlift Northwest to provide air medical transport and with agencies specializing in ground medical transport to ensure patients arrive quickly and safely.
  • Written follow-up information about the patient’s hospitalization, including discharge summaries and operative reports, are sent to the referring provider when we discharge the patient.

Send digital radiology images

Transfer images from your picture archiving and communication system (PACS) via virtual private network (VPN) after initiating patient transfer. This allows us to expedite care by beginning a treatment plan before your patient arrives.

Follow your patient

Use U-Link to follow your patient through the UW Medicine system. Access their electronic medical record and print or copy portions of the record as needed.
