Medical Student EDI Travel Funding Request Form

The Medical Student Equity Services team in the Office of Student Affairs is offering a one-time source of funding to support UWSOM students throughout the WWAMI region who are participating in U.S domestic regional or national professional association meetings / conference focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts to address disparities for culturally, economically, educationally, and environmentally underrepresented / under-resourced persons and communities.NOTE: This is one-time funding available for this academic year only.EligibilityUW medical students throughout the WWAMI who are currently enrolled and in good academic standing may apply for this one-time travel grant request. An applicant may be considered for one of the following circumstances:

  • planning to attend an EDI-related professional conference that will end no later than May 31, 2024, or
  • already attended an EDI-related professional conference that took place after July 1, 2023 (student is requesting reimbursement only)

The maximum amount of funding a student may request is:

  • up to $500 for travel in the U.S. (towards conference registration, airfare or hotel only)
  • up to $300 for virtual conference registration fee

A student may submit more than one application for consideration; however, a student may only receive one travel award from this fund. Application ProcessThe Medical Student Equity Services team will be accepting applications on a rolling basis until further notice. Please allow up to 2 weeks for your application to be approved.

These are one-time funds for this academic year ONLY. For conference that have not yet occurred, you must apply at least three weeks in advance of your conference travel.For an application to be considered complete, the online Medical Student EDI Travel Funding Request Form must be submitted, including all requested information uploaded documents (e.g., scans of original receipts for students requesting reimbursement).A student approved for funding will be expected to work with the Office of Student Affairs to bring back information learned from the conference and share with members of their student organization or broader UWSOM medical student community.If you have any questions or concerns, especially issues accessing the Microsoft Form, please email Michele Nucci, MPH, Operations Specialist, Medical Student Equity Services, at somequity@uw.edu.
