About Venu G. Pillarisetty
Venu G. Pillarisetty, MD, FACS, is a board-certified surgical oncologist, a Professor of Surgery, and the Medical Director for the Continuous Performance Improvement Department at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Dr. Pillarisetty has been voted a “Seattle Top Doctor” multiple times.
Dr. Pillarisetty specializes in treating patients with pancreatic cancer. His expertise includes both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques such as laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Pillarisetty believes that as a cancer doctor, his primary role is to help his patients choose the right treatment for themselves, with compassion being his guiding principle.
Dr. Pillarisetty’s research interests study the immune response to pancreatic cancer as well as other solid tumors. Data suggests that pancreatic cancer may not only be evading the immune system, but actually getting assistance from it. Recently, Dr. Pillarisetty and his colleagues have found that the right combination of immunotherapy drugs prompts cells in the immune system to kill tumor cells. Their hope is to continue enhancing the body’s immune response within the tumor microenvironment.

In his free time, Dr. Pillarisetty enjoys photography, cooking and bicycling.
