About Tawnya L. Christiansen
Tawnya Christiansen, M.D., is a board certified psychiatrist at UW Medical Center.
Dr. Christiansen specializes in emergency psychiatric care, including triage, rapid assessment and stabilization of individuals in psychiatric or substance-induced crises, and identification of appropriate referrals for physical conditions that may mimic psychiatric illness. She also supervises resident psychiatrists in the psychiatric emergency department setting.
Dr. Christiansen earned her M.D. at the UW. Her clinical interests include emergency psychiatric care, community mental health delivery and the interface of mental health law with acute clinical care. When it comes to patient care, she believes in treating the whole person, not just an illness. She also enjoys addressing patients’ social, family and practical concerns in addition to their specific symptoms.
Personal Interests
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Christiansen enjoys spending time with her family, home restoration, cooking, traveling and collecting antiques.
