About Susan A. Stern
Susan A. Stern, MD, is a board certified physician, UW's chair of Emergency Medicine overseeing both Harborview and UW Medical Center's Emergency Departments and a UW Professor of Emergency Medicine.
As an emergency physician, she enjoys the privilege of caring for patients with widely varying illnesses and injuries, as well as backgrounds. In particular, she likes being a part of a team of professionals focused on providing compassionate care to patients and their families during some of their most vulnerable moments.
Dr. Stern earned her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University. She has served on the board of directors of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Stern is an active researcher in the area of resuscitation science, specifically evaluating novel therapeutic strategies in the early phases following traumatic injury with hemorrhagic shock.
Personal Interests
In her free time Dr. Stern enjoys hiking with her dog.
