About Susan E. Merel
Susan Merel, M.D., is a board certified physician at UW Medicine's Hospital Medicine Group and the Palliative Care Consult Service at Harborview. She is also a UW assistant professor of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Merel strives for excellent communication with her patients and their families and works to teach these skills to medical students. She believes it is essential to fully explain care plans to patients and support them and their families during their stessful time in the hospital.
Dr. Merel earned her M.D. from the University of Chicago. She is associate director for elective clerkships in UW Medicine student programs and is active in the Society for General Internal Medicine. Dr. Merel's clinical and research interests include patient-physician communication, care of the hospitalized elderly patient, palliative care, delirium, dementia and liver disease.
Personal Interests
In her spare time Dr. Merel enjoys travel to national parks, hiking and spending time with her two sons.
