About Stephan D. Fihn
Stephan Fihn, MD, MPH is a physician at Harborview Medical Center, head of the Division of General Internal Medicine at UW, and a professor of General Internal Medicine and Health Services. He has been on the faculty since 1979.
Dr. Fihn earned his MD at St. Louis University and his MPH at UW. He served numerous significant roles within the US Department of Veterans Affairs from 1982 to 2018. He has received the Robert J. Glaser Award and the VA’s Under Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Health Services Research. He has published over 300 scientific articles and book chapters, co-edited two editions of Outpatient Medicine, and is the deputy editor of JAMA Network Open.
His research has addressed strategies for improving the efficiency and quality of primary and specialty medical care and understanding the epidemiology of common medical problems.
Personal Interests
In his free time, Dr. Fihn enjoys alpine touring, cycling, swimming, and spending time with his wife, three children, and grandchild.
