Rebecca Petersen, M.D., M.Sc., F.A.C.S., is a board certified surgeon at the UW Medicine Hernia Center and Eastside Specialty Center, associate director of the Northwest Hospital General Surgery Residency Program and a UW associate professor of General Surgery.

Dr. Petersen specializes in advanced minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. She believes in establishing a partnership with her patients. She feels it is critical to listen to her patients' concerns and feelings and to incorporate the entire person into the decision-making process regarding surgery.  

Dr. Petersen earned her M.D. from Oregon Health & Science University and her M.Sc. from Harvard. Her main clinical interest is in the evaluation and management of complex abdominal wall hernias, in addition to inguinal, femoral, umbilical, sports and hiatal hernias.

Personal Interests

Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with family, skiing, running and traveling.
