Rebecca Petersen, M.D.,M.Sc., F.A.C.S., is a board certified general surgeon who specializes in advanced minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. She has been practicing at the UW Medicine Hernia Center since its inception and is the associate program director at Northwest Hospital for the General Surgery Residency Program.    

Dr. Peterson believes in establishing a partnership with her patients. She feels it is critical to listen to her patients' concerns and feelings and to incorporate the entire person into the decision-making process regarding surgery.
Dr. Petersen received her medical degree from the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and her master’s of science degree in epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her main clinical interest is in the evaluation and management of complex abdominal wall hernias, in addition to inguinal, femoral, umbilical, sports and hiatal hernias.
