About Ramasamy Bakthavatsalam
Ramasamy Bakthavatsalam, M.D., M.B.B.S., is a UW professor of Surgery and Urology, as well as the Program Director of Kidney & Pancreas Transplantation and Living Kidney Donor Transplantation. He also serves as a UNOS primary surgeon for both specialties.
Dr. Bakthavatsalam loves using all his medical knowledge and skills to deliver compassionate care to patients with organ failure (kidney, liver and pancreas). He is honored and blessed to work and take care of the people and the families donating "gifts of life" who are the foundation of the field of transplantation.
Dr. Bakthavatsalam earned his M.D. at Madras Medical College in India. His interests are abdominal organ transplantation (liver, kidney and pancreas) including living donation, dilaysis access, complex retroperitoneal and uro-oncologic surgery and surgery for portal hypertension.
