I needed help with a medical issue I found to be embarrassing. Getting proper support for this issue also required my doctor to be aware of sensitive to how my health issue intersected with my LGBT identity. My doctor made me feel safe and heard discussing my issue. He was compassionate, and was already well-informed about how my identity affected my medical needs. At the same time, he also demonstrated a desire to make sure he was as informed as he could be, and was honest about that approach as well. It was really impressive, and made an uncomfortable situation so much better. I appreciated it a ton.
