Olumide "Lumi" Sokunbi, MD, is a board-certified physical and rehabilitation physician specializing in sports medicine. He is currently an assistant professor of clinical practice within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine in the Sports & Spine Division at the University of Washington. Dr. Sokunbi specializes in caring for patients of all ages and abilities to help maximize their function and quality of life.
He treats patients with various musculoskeletal injuries through a non-surgical and patient-centered approach and provides care for athletes. He performs diagnostic ultrasound, ultrasound-guided treatments including steroid injections, viscosupplementation, and tendon procedures (tenotomy), regenerative medicine including platelet-rich-plasma treatments (PRP) and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT), and spine procedures. Dr. Sokunbi's research interests include health education, injury prevention, performance optimization, and quality improvement.
Dr. Sokunbi completed his Sports Medicine fellowship at New York Presbyterian/Columbia Cornell in New York City, where he provided sports coverage for local high schools, Fordham University, Columbia University, Women's Elite Rugby (Professional), and USA Gymnastics. He has provided medical coverage for a wide range of athletic teams at all competitive levels, including high school, NCAA Division I, professional, and Olympic athletes. His coverage experience also spans to mass events such as the New York City, Chicago, and Houston Marathons.
