Nicole Zern, MD, FACS, is a board-certified surgeon, Associate Program Director for the UW General Surgery Residency Program, and an Assistant Professor of Surgery.
Dr. Zern has completed fellowship training in endocrine surgery and specializes in the surgical management of conditions affecting the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Dr. Zern helped launch the UW Medicine Thyroid Nodule Clinic the first clinic of its kind to offer same-day fine needle aspiration (FNA) and treatment plans. She believes the patient is the center of the team and all team members work towards a common goal of providing excellent communication, treatment and follow up. She is constantly inspired by her patients’ optimism and resolve.
Dr. Zern is a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Thyroid Association.
Her research interests include outcomes in thyroid cancer and adrenal tumors, specifically pheochromocytoma. She is involved in the general surgery residency training program, and surgical education research.
Outside of work Dr. Zern enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, dogs and friends. She loves traveling including cruises, and is an avid fan of collegiate sports.
