Michael Ryan, M.D. is a board-certified physician at the Kidney Clinic at Harborview, a UW associate professor of Nephrology and UW Medicine’s associate dean for Curriculum. Dr. Ryan has won the UW Distinguished Teacher of the Year award four times.

Dr. Ryan cares for patients with all types of acute and chronic kidney diseases, including those needing dialysis or a transplant. He is sensitive to the preferences, beliefs and diversity of each patient and their family. He is committed to treating each patient and their families with compassion, dignity and respect.

Dr. Ryan earned his M.D. from the University of Michigan. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

Dr. Ryan’s clinical and research interests include acute and chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, difficult to treat hypertension, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplantation, electrolyte imbalances and quality of life in dialysis patients.

Personal Interests

In his free time Dr. Ryan enjoys bicycling, hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, spending time with family and music.
