Dr. Persenaire obviously recognizes the complexities of the challenges at hand (working to find a good balance of meds for my husband who has Alzheimer's and is at an AFH) and did a wonderful job of empathizing with my concerns, offering solutions, and explaining how the different meds work and their risks and benefits. He also gave very good advice for communicating better with my AFH contacts and being more practical in setting my expectations for their work.

About Michael J. Persenaire
Dr. Persenaire is a sub-specialist neurologist with expertise in neurological diseases that cause symptoms of "cognitive dysfunction" and others that are due to inflammation in the brain, spinal cord or optic nerves. Within that set of neurological diseases are Alzheimer's Disease, Lewy Body Dementia, Primary Progressive Aphasia, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica and Autoimmune Encephalitis to name only a few.
His approach to patient care is to provide his patients with a good understanding about the cause of their symptoms so that they can adequately weigh the risks and benefits of their various treatment options and to act as their consultant to help them to make a decision that is aligned with their personal values. He strives to be guided by evidence from the medical literature in the diagnosis and treatment plans that he prescribes but acknowledges the limitations of this approach and that many decisions are made in the context of uncertainty.
