Medical oncology

Leona Holmberg, M.D., Ph.D., is a board certified oncologist at SCCA and a researcher at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Dr. Holmberg specializes in bone marrow transplantation and has clinical expertise in immunotherapy and transplantation immunology. Her philosophy is to present patients with their various treatment options and let them choose what therapy they wish to receive. She also wants to show empathy, compassion and caring for her patients.

Dr. Holmberg earned her M.D at the University of Miami and her Ph.D. at Harvard. She was the recipient of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center's first Ali Al-Johani clinical-research award for providing exemplary and compassionate care to her patients and their families. Her current clinical research interests have focused on trying to augment the immune system after an autologous transplant.

Personal Interests

When she isn't providing care to her patients or attending to her research protocols, Dr. Holmberg enjoys spending time hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. She’s also a master of quick reading and will go through a couple of non-medical related books in a week.
