Kym Ahrens, M.D., M.P.H. is a board certified physician at Seattle Children’s Hospital and a UW associate professor of Adolescent Medicine and Pediatrics and an adjunct associate professor of Health Services.

Dr. Ahrens is passionately committed in her clinical and research work to helping at-risk adolescents experience a healthier transition to adulthood.

Dr. Ahrens earned her M.D. from the University of Iowa. She is board certified in both Adolescent Medicine and Pediatrics. Her clinical and research interests are in promoting positive physical and mental health outcomes in at-risk youth. Past research focused on the influence of adult mentors on youth in foster care and youth with learning disabilities. She is currently conducting a series of NIH-sponsored research studies focused on developing an intervention program to reduce risk of sexually transmitted infections including HIV among adolescents in the foster system.
