Kimberley Riehle, MD, FACS FAAP, is a board-certified general and thoracic pediatric surgeon at Seattle Children's Hospital. 

Dr. Riehle performs a wide range of neonatal and pediatric surgical procedures, with a focus on abdominal cancers and complex airway and esophageal surgery, in addition to prenatal consultations. Dr. Riehle aims to put herself in the parents' positions as she meets and interacts with patients and their families and to treat her patients as she would want her own son to be treated. She understands that taking care of a child during an operation or severe illness is incredibly difficult and strives to make each family's experience as positive as she can.

“The most satisfying part of my job is helping patients and families through difficult situations, whether it be a complex congenital problem, abdominal tumor, or outpatient surgery. As a mom, I understand that even simple operations are a big deal when they happen to your child, and appreciate the uniqueness of each patient and family in my care. I take great pride in getting kids back to a healthy life.”

Dr. Riehle is an active member of the children’s oncology group, and is an active participant in the pediatric surgical oncology research consortium. Her basic scientific research focuses on the liver’s response to surgery or injury, and in developing new treatments for patients with fibrolamellar carcinomas.   Her research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the American Surgical Association Foundation.
