Kelly D. Smith, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified pathologist at UW Medicine and a UW associate professor of Pathology. Seattle Metropolitan Magazine has recognized him as a Seattle Top Doctor.
Dr. Smith participates in renal pathology, cardiovascular pathology and autopsy services. He strives to create active partnerships with the families of his patients.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree and doctorate at the University of Iowa. He is a member of several organizations, including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the Renal Pathology Society and the American Society of Nephrologists.
Dr. Smith conducts research focused on how the immune system regulates inflammation and immune responses. Other research interests include the microbiome, infectious diseases and inflammatory disorders. His clinical interests include molecular diagnosis of kidney and cardiovascular diseases.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Smith enjoys skiing, hiking, cooking and spending time with family.
