BiographyKaren Jane Souter, M.B.B.S, F.R.C.A., M.A.C.M., is UW Medicine's vice-chair for Education and director of Residents in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. She is also a UW professor and chief of Anesthesiology and adjunct professor of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Souter believes that the patient is the center of his or her care. As an anesthesiologist, she strives to provide the safest medical care and honor the trust her patients place in her.
Dr. Souter received her medical education at the University of London. She is a recipient of the ACGME Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach award in recognition of her work related to resident education. Dr. Souter is an active member of many professional societies related to anesthesia and education. She is secretary of Society for Education for Anesthesia and is president of the Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors.
Personal InterestsIn her free time Dr. Souter enjoys scuba diving, travel, nature and poetry. She has a daily yoga practice that keeps her healthy and whole.
