Kara Mitchell, M.D., is a board certified physician at the Medicine Consult and Pre-Op Clinic at UW Medical Center and a UW associate professor of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Mitchell cares for the medical concerns of patients who are hospitalized after having surgery. She typically meets patients prior to surgery at the Medicine Consult and Pre-Op Clinic in order to learn about their medical history and to offer suggestions of ways to reduce the risk of medical complications.
Dr. Mitchell earned her M.D. from the UW. She wrote several chapters of the Perioperative Medicine Consult Handbook, which has sold over 50,000 electronic copies and has been translated into several languages. Her clinical and research interests include surgical risk stratification, perioperative management of existing medical problems, perioperative management of medications and evaluation and treatment of medical complications of surgery.
In her free time Dr. Mitchell enjoys exploring beaches, hiking, swimming, playing volleyball, contemplating works of art and reading.
