Judy Chen, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a board-certified surgeon and the co-director of the UW Center for Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery. She is also Obesity Medicine certified, the Associate Medical Director of Infection Control at UWMC, a UW assistant professor of Surgery, and an affiliate faculty member of the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute. She has been named one of Seattle's Top Doctors multiple times.
Dr. Chen’s clinical interests include advanced, minimally invasive weight management and metabolic operations such as sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. She is an expert in the surgical treatment of diabetes and obesity related metabolic disorders.
Dr. Chen is dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to each patient, so they are being treated with compassion, respect and excellence. She is one of the only bariatric surgeons credentialed to care for adolescents with early-onset weigh issues in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI), an area serving over 25% of the US.
Dr. Chen’s scholarly work focuses on institution-wide quality improvement initiatives in which Dr. Chen proudly serves as co-Chair of the Surgery Infection Prevention Committee, UW Perioperative Glucose Workgroup, and General Surgery QA/QI Forum. Dr. Chen is also passionate about training the next generation of doctors and surgeons, and dedicates her time to the surgical education of fellows, residents and medical students.
In her free time Dr. Chen enjoys reading, family activities, and all things Disney with her children.
