About Joshua O. Benditt
Joshua Benditt, M.D., is a board certified physician and UWMC’s medical director of Respiratory Services and a UW professor of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine and an adjunct professor of Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr. Benditt sees all types of respiratory patients and is internationally known for caring for those with respiratory weakness requiring non-invasive ventilation support. He has a great passion for these patients and is one of a small number of physicians specializing in this area.
Dr. Benditt earned his M.D. at the UW. He has been the chair of the American College of Physicians Home Care Network and has served on the Board of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association Washington Chapter. He was lead investigator for the National Emphysema Treatment Trial study. He has written numerous articles on the care of breathing-challenged patients with neuromuscular disease.
Personal Interests
When he is not taking care of patients, Dr. Benditt loves to spend time in his pottery studio. He has been a potter since high school and loves the meditative quality of throwing pots on the wheel. He has a show once a year to raise money for patients afflicted with neuromuscular breathing failure.
