About John F Neumaier
John F. Neumaier, M.D., Ph.D., is an attending psychiatrist at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, head of the Division of Psychiatric Neurosciences at the University of Washington, Seattle, and associate director of the UW Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute.
Dr. Neumaier’s clinical interests include serotonin receptors, depression and schizophrenia. His research focuses on studying complex emotional behaviors involving addiction, learning, motivation and stress responses; and using molecular, pharmacological and behavioral strategies in rodent models.
Dr. Neumaier is a professor with the UW departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Pharmacology. He joined the faculty in 1994. He is also a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology and the American Psychological Association.
Dr. Neumaier believes patients should be full partners in their treatment, together deciding on a plan of action based on information and options he provides.

In his spare time, Dr. Neumaier enjoys cooking, gardening and cross country skiing.
