Dr Azen is the best. She "gets" me but also encourages me to make good/better decisions. I recently had an experience with a healthcare provider who made me feel guilty and tried to project their own personal life choices on me. Not a happy visit. I am thankful for Dr. Azen's approach. She keeps me honest but has never tried to intimidate me.
About Jennifer Lynn Azen
Jennifer Azen, M.D., is a board-certified physician at UW Medicine Primary Care at Kent-Des Moines and a UW assistant professor of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Azen believes in a patient-physician partnership. She enjoys working with patients to improve their quality of life and longevity. She also believes that communicating the importance of risk factor modification and prevention is often the most important contribution she makes in the partnership. She truly enjoys being the patient's primary physician and working with specialists, as needed, to coordinate the best care for her patients.
Dr. Azen earned her M.D. at the University of Texas in Galveston. Her clinical interests include the full spectrum of internal medicine.
Dr. Azen moved to the Northwest from Texas for residency at UW and has been both a primary care, a post-acute care and a long-term care provider since graduating. She has served as a skilled nursing home director, dementia care director, and long-term respiratory care medical director. She enjoys the variety of working at Medicine Primary Care, Harborview, and UW Medical Center - Montlake.
In the clinic, she continues to work with complex patients as they transition from the hospital to both skilled nursing and primary care. She has a special interest in working with transplant patients, chronic lung disease, heart disease, chronic liver disease, chronic brain injury (stroke, trauma), and chronic ventilator/tracheostomy patients. She has partnered with the cystic fibrosis clinic to provide primary care to CF patients. She has recently developed an interest in addiction medicine as well. She particularly enjoys working with a diverse patient population at the Kent/Des Moines clinic and is dedicated to providing quality and equitable care to her patients.
Personal Interests
Dr. Azen grew up near a small town in central Texas where her family runs a steakhouse. Her father took her on a trip to the Pacific Northwest when she was 17 and she fell in love with the area.
When not working with patients, she enjoys spending time with her family, running, gardening, and loves watching sports. She has a daughter who is a cancer survivor and a son. Her family understands the power of excellent medical care provided by UW Medicine, Seattle Children’s, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
