Janelle Sousa, M.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at UW Medicine's Reconstructive Surgery Center and a UW assistant professor of Surgery and Plastic Surgery in the Division of plastic surgery.
Dr. Sousa provides reconstructive surgery for oncologic conditions, lymphatic surgery and facial re-animation, and is part of the transplant team in the Vascularized Composite Allograft program. She believes that each patient must be treated individually. Especially for cancer reconstruction, the surgical plan must be tailored to meet the physical, social and emotional needs of the patient. She focuses on engaging with patients to learn about their goals and values.
Dr. Sousa earned her M.D. from the UW. Her clinical interests include oncologic reconstruction including breast cancer, sarcoma, melanoma and other cancers, as well as lymphedema, and peripheral nerve reconstruction including facial reanimation. Her research interests include lymphedema treatment and outcomes and breast reconstruction outcomes.
Dr. Sousa enjoys spending time with her husband and son, running with her dog Georgia, cooking and enjoying her Seattle houseboat.
