About James F. Cowan
James F. Cowan, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., is a practicing internal medicine and infectious disease physician who is dedicated to improving the delivery of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), infectious diseases and comprehensive primary care to patients in the USA and in resource-poor settings.
Dr. Cowan earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University, his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and his M.B.A. from the University of Washington. Dr. Cowan joined the UW faculty in 2013 and currently practices as an attending physician at Harborview Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases.
Dr. Cowan's clinical interests include primary care, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
Dr. Cowan enjoys partnering with patients to assess their health care needs and to jointly create an individualized care plan.
Personal Interests
Dr. Cowan enjoys hiking, bicycling, backcountry skiing, running, sailing, reading and traveling.
