Biography

H. Joachim Deeg, M.D., is a board certified oncologist at SCCA, a UW professor of Medicine and Oncology and a researcher at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Dr. Deeg treats bone marrow failure and blood cancers. He believes that a central part of good patient care is close collaboration between members of a multidisciplinary team. He enjoys writing and communicating about his research, which centers on understanding how leukemia develops, and mentoring young people who come through the fellowship program. He finds both aspects of his career rewarding and productive.

Dr. Deeg earned his M.D. at the University of Bonn, Germany. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. His clinical and research interests include myelodysplastic syndrome, aplastic anemia, myelofibrosis, hemopoietic stem cell transplantation, graft-versus-host disease, iron overload and secondary malignancies.
