Giana Davidson, MD, MPH, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon, Chief of Staff, Elect for UW Medical Center, Section Chief for Emergency General Surgery, Medical Director for Post-Acute Care and Readmission Reduction Strategy, Associate Medical Director at UW Medical Center, Associate Professor of Surgery and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Health Services. Her goal at UW Medicine is to continuously improve the quality of care and ensure that success is evaluated in ways that include both the patients’ voices and equitable healthcare access and outcomes.
Dr. Davidson is an expert in emergency general surgical care, surgical management of gastrointestinal disorders, and complex hernia repair. She commonly performs exploratory surgery for surgical emergencies, laparoscopic and open hernia repair, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and splenectomy. Her goal is to help guide patients and their families to make informed decisions that align with their healthcare goals and ensure our health system is delivering high quality surgical care. She is a mentor for residents and medical students and strives to teach compassionate clinical care, the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, and shared surgical decision making.
Dr. Davidson completed advanced training in research methodology. Her research focuses on comparing the different ways to treat surgical disease to better understand the impact and trade-offs of these treatment options on a patients’ lives. She is a National Institutes of Health, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services funded health services researcher at the Surgical Outcomes Research Center focusing on improving transitions of care and long-term outcomes for patients following hospital admission and for acute care surgical conditions.
When not in the hospital, Dr. Davidson can often be found in the mountains hiking and skiing with her husband and two young kids, or tending to her small urban farm in Seattle.
