Biography

Dr. Gensini is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and specializes in Congenital cardiac surgery. He is based primarily at the University of Washington Medical Center. His clinical interests include pediatric and adult congenital heart defects and heart transplantation. His research interests include congenital heart defects and their repairs.

Dr. Gensini received his degree in Medicine and Surgery, followed by a General Surgery residency from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia and a degree in Cardiovascular Surgery from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin, Colombia. He then completed a two-year fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, United Kingdom, followed by an ECMO fellowship in the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care. Since coming to the United States, Dr. Gensini has also held the positions of resident physician in General Surgery as well as fellow in Cardiothoracic surgery and Pediatric Cardiac surgery at the University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington.

Board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery in 2010, Dr. Gensini practiced congenital cardiac surgery at the University of Rochester for the last 8 years. Dr. Gensini is a member of professional organizations including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons as well as becoming a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His professional interests include congenital cardiac surgery and heart transplantation among others.
