Erik G. Van Eaton, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a UW associate professor of Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center.
Dr. Van Eaton's specialty is caring for critically ill surgical patients. Usually, conversations about a patient's progress must be held with family members, rather than directly with the patient, who may be too ill to communicate. Dr. Van Eaton strives for clear, understandable and frequent conversations with loved ones during a patient's critical illness.
Dr. Van Eaton has expertise in surgical critical care, trauma and emergency surgery and complex abdominal hernia repairs. He conducts research in biomedical informatics, information transfer and communication practices.
As co-founder of the UW's Applied Clinical Informatics Research Laboratory Dr. Van Eaton builds collaborative relationships among successful informatics projects to bring high-performance information management to bedside decisions.
