About Erik S. Carlson
Erik Carlson, M.D., Ph.D., is a board certified psychiatrist at the VA Puget Sound and a UW assistant professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Dr. Carlson strives to listen to his patients carefully and helps them find the treatment they may need for a myriad of psychiatric disorders.
Dr. Carlson earned his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. His clinical interests include anxiety, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, autism and depression. His research interests focus on finding out how the brain works and how this knowledge may facilitate novel treatments in psychiatry. His research studies include the effects of iron deficiency in the development of hippocampal neuron structure and function, gene-circuit-behavior inter-relationships in cerebellum, fear and reward.
Personal Interests
When away from medicine, Dr. Carlson loves spending time with family, friends and in the lab. He also enjoys snowboarding, hiking, live music and travel.
