Hospital medicine, Primary care - internal medicine

Eric LaMotte, M.D., is a physician at UW Medical Center and a UW instructor of General Internal Medicine.

In addition to providing excellent clinical care in the inpatient setting, Dr. LaMotte is interested in facilitating transitions of care for medically complex patients. As a medical educator, he aims to support his learners’ sense of curiosity, discovery and skepticism, and has a particular interest in teaching clinical reasoning. He believes that shared decision-making is central to the physician-patient relationship. He feels privileged to work with acutely ill, hospitalized patients, who are often experiencing a critical and stressful event in their lives, and facing important decisions about their medical care.

Dr. LaMotte earned his M.D. from UC San Francisco. His clinical and research interests include nephrology, cardiology, palliative care and medical education.
