Dr. Claire Buchanan is a Clinical professor, board certified in General Surgery, completed a research fellowship at University of Southern California and then a breast surgical fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Since 2005, Dr. Buchanan has dedicated her career to the care of women with breast cancer, women at high risk for breast cancer and benign breast disease. Dr. Buchanan performs image guided excisional biopsies, lumpectomies, mastectomies, sentinel node biopsies and axillary dissections. Dr. Buchanan has an interest in skin and nipple sparing mastectomies as well as aesthetic flat closure for women who choose not to pursue reconstruction.
She strives to educate her patients about the various treatment options and encourage them to participate in the decision making as much as possible. She also wants to meet patients where they are in the process and respect that each patient is an individual with their own perspective and experience and tries to honor that as much as she is able.
In her spare time, she enjoys baking pies for friends and family, and watching comedy and action movies with her two sons. She takes East Coast Swing dancing classes and loves to go dancing to live swing bands at Century Ballroom or the Polish Home Association.
