Dr. Hough is director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center, and a UW associate professor of medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Hough is an expert in critical care medicine, including management of patients with acute respiratory failure and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Dr. Hough conducts research on critical care outcomes. She is especially interested in improving long-term outcomes after critical illness.

Dr. Hough received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She trained in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, then came to the University of Washington in 1999 for clinical and research training in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Dr. Hough served as chief medical resident at Harborview Medical Center from 2000 - 2001 and has remained at Harborview since.

Dr. Hough has been board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. Additionally, she has had continuous NIH funding since 2003.
