April Stempien-Otero, M.D., F.A.C.C., is a board certified cardiologist at the Heart Institute at UW Medical Center, the UW’s Craig Tall Family Endowed Chair in Heart Failure Research and a UW associate professor of Cardiology, Cardiology Research and Medicine and an adjunct associate professor of Pathology. She has been consistently listed as a Seattle Magazine Top Doctor.
Dr. Stempien-Otero specializes in heart failure transplant. She strives to create active partnerships with her patients to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Dr. Stempien-Otero earned her M.D. from the University of Connecticut. She is triple board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology and Internal Medicine. She has received the Mentored Physician Scientist Award by the National Institutes of Health and is a CME Teacher of the year. Her research interests include translational research in end-stage heart failure.
In her free time, Dr. Stempien-Otero enjoys soccer, cooking, trail running, and farming and gathering shellfish.
