UW Medicine Sports, Spine & Orthopedic Health is a multi-disciplinary team of specially trained, highly experienced rehabilitation medicine and sports medicine physicians, orthopedic, plastic and spine surgeons, podiatrists, physical and occupational therapists and sports psychologists. We provide comprehensive and personalized treatment from the simple to the most complex problems, injuries and diseases of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, including the spine. Our focus is providing patients with family- and patient-centered care that considers your unique needs and circumstances so that you can return to your everyday activities with confidence. In partnership with our patients, the team develops an individualized plan to provide the maximum recovery of function with the least invasive treatment possible. When you are hurt, our team works to get you back to peak health and fitness.
Our services and care include non-surgical and surgical treatment for new and chronic orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions, arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, diagnostic and interventional ultrasound, concussion management, physical therapy, custom orthotics, braces, splints, steroidal injections and medication. When surgery is advisable, UW Medicine surgeons use state-of-the-art equipment and technology to perform the least invasive surgery possible. Our faculty physicians study injuries and treatments to understand which surgical and non-surgical approaches yield the most consistently effective outcomes. This research allows us to offer specialized treatments and expertise such as a donor allograft transplant procedure that is rare elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest. UW Medicine Sports, Spine & Orthopedic Health providers work in an integrated and cooperative multidisciplinary team that partner with our colleagues in Rheumatology, Neurology, Radiology, Pain, Nursing Social Work and many others.
The Foot & Ankle Center
provides consultation and surgical treatment for complex foot, ankle and lower-leg conditions including arthritis, genetic anomaly, deformity, sports injury traumatic injury and foot and ankle reconstruction and the donor allograft transplant procedure. A full array of podiatry services are also available through the Foot and Ankle Center.
The Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Center
treats complex injuries, disorders and chronic conditions that affect upper extremities, including the shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, hand and fingers. We comprehensively treat musculoskeletal, peripheral nerve and skin conditions from the shoulder to the fingertip.
The Hip & Knee Center
evaluates and manages hip and knee conditions, with a specialty in the surgical treatment of these joints. It performs primary total joint replacements, revision of total joint replacements and corrective osteotomies.
The Orthopedic Oncology Center provides consultation and surgical treatment for patients with sarcomas (malignant tumors arising in connective tissue and bone) and a wide range of benign tumors of both bone and soft tissue. We provide a careful but aggressive approach to tumor diagnosis, imaging and treatment.
The Spine Center treats both simple and complex disorders, diseases and injuries affecting the lumbar, thoracic and cervical areas of the spine after careful assessment using the latest diagnostic and imaging technologies.
The Sports Medicine Center provides care for injuries sustained at all levels of physical activity. We care for acute injuries (such as sprains or dislocations) and chronic injuries that arise from overuse (such as tendinitis or plantar fasciitis).
All of our clinics and providers serve as a gateway to a wide array of UW Medicine resources ready to provide care for every aspect of your recovery and continuing
health. Wear and tear of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and cartilage
occurs naturally with age, and can be accelerated through malformation, overuse or
injury. No matter what condition brings you to our multi-disciplinary care team, we will evaluate you, hear your concerns, develop and implement an individualized treatment plan to maximize recovery of function, and provide preventive measures to protect against a recurrence of the problem.
