The Sigvard T. Hansen Jr. Foot and Ankle Institute in Seattle specializes in surgical and nonsurgical treatment of traumatic injuries, overuse syndromes, genetic anomalies, deformities and arthritis. We also provide podiatry services such as diabetic nail care, orthotics prescriptions and management of foot fungus.
Our orthopaedic surgeons, physicians and clinic staff expertly assess patients’ foot, ankle and lower-leg conditions. The institute is part of UW Medicine’s orthopaedic program, which in 2009 was ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top such services.
We treat complex problems related to nerves, muscles and biomechanics, as well as common ailments such as flat foot and fractures.
Most people have foot or ankle problems during their lives. We often see patients who have not found relief with previous treatments. Some people have tolerated problems, thinking that discomfort is a natural part of aging. In many circumstances, however, we can offer treatment options that alleviate foot and ankle pain.
Our specialists treat the following conditions:
- Ankle instability
- Cavus foot (high arch)
- Charcot Marie Tooth
- Diabetic deformities
- Flat foot
- Hammer toes
- Overuse/biomechanical syndromes
- Polio and other neuromuscular problems
- Post-traumatic / surgical conditions
- Sports injuries
Conditions not treated include acute infections and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
