Your Hospital Bill

Patient Financial Services (PFS) bills for a range of services provided to patients of UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. Services billed by PFS include inpatient hospital stays, clinic visits and other outpatient services such as X-rays, lab tests and therapies.

These medical center services, also called facility fees, are billed separately from the professional fees billed by UW Physicians (UWP). UWP is a separate entity from the medical centers and bills professional fees for services provided by doctors practicing at both medical centers. So, you may receive two bills for the same visit: one from PFS and one from UWP for the services your physician provides.

If you have questions about your physician bill, visit the Your Physician Bill section of this site.

Provider-based clinics, such as those located within the medical center, will issue both a facility fee and a professional fee in one bill.

UW Medical Center’s provider-based clinics include: clinics located in the main medical center on N.E. Pacific Avenue, UWMC-Roosevelt clinics, Eastside Specialty Center, UW Medicine Regional Heart Center-Edmonds, UWMC Prosthetics and Orthotics clinic and the Center on Human Development and Disability. Hospital charges may be as much as, or greater than, the charges for professional services, depending on services provided.

Patients may also receive bills for visits with other providers, including the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Children’s University Medical Group, and air and ground ambulance companies such as Airlift Northwest. For information about bills from other providers, please contact the other providers directly.
