Art Program
The UWMC Art Program includes an outstanding art collection, works from visiting artists, musician performances, an artist-in-residence program and posters and books that you may borrow while you are hospitalized.
The program is supported in part by donations and by the UW Medical Center Service League.
Bank Card/ATM Machines
A cash machine is on the main floor (Level 3) of the medical center, across from the Cashier's Office, and another is near the Plaza Cafe on Level 1. Behind UW Medical Center, you will find a cash machine located at the west entrance to the South Campus Center.
John Cortner Cancer Library
This library, located on 8-SE, room 8348, is for patients, families and friends. The library is open during clinic hours.
The library contains books, videos, patient education pamphlets, community information on cancer organizations and a wealth of other cancer information. Patients and families may use the available computers with Internet access and a printer.
Health Information Resource Center
The Health Information Resource Center at UW Medical Center provides high quality, individualized health information to patients, families, staff and community members. The center provides information to help users actively participate in their own health care.

The center is open weekdays from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., and staff is available to help users find health information. We can help you find out about:
- Diseases and conditions
- Tests and medications
- Support groups and classes
- Community health resources
- Transportation and housing
- Services at UWMC
- Health promotion
- Interpreter Services
Mail
Mail for inpatients should be addressed with: name, room number, Box 356144, University of Washington Medical Center, 1959 N.E. Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.
Inpatients may leave outgoing stamped mail at their unit's nursing station. Stamps are available at the UW Medical Center Gift Shop.

Service League
The UW Medical Center Service League is a nonprofit agency, governed by a volunteer board of directors, which serves as an umbrella organization for the medical center's volunteers.
The Service League advances and promotes medical center programs and patient care services through fund development and allocation, community outreach and volunteer program enhancement. For more information, call 206.598.4218.
Smoking Policy
UW Medical Center is committed to providing a safe, smoke-free environment for patients, visitors and staff. The entire medical center is designated as a nonsmoking area. Designated smoking areas are outside the medical center for visitors and patients who are able to walk or use a wheelchair.
Patients and visitors at UWMC - Roosevelt are asked to smoke at the south side of the building.
Telephones and Assistive Devices
The main medical center telephone number is 206.598.3300. Incoming calls to patients are connected to their rooms.
Courtesy phones to make local calls are available throughout the hospital and clinics, in waiting rooms and in the main hospital lobby. A courtesy phone is also available in the Health Information Resource Center on the third floor near the main entrance.
Pay phones are available in several locations at UWMC:
- Pacific elevator lobbies – first, fourth, fifth and eighth floors
- Surgery Pavilion lobby, next to restrooms, third floor
There are also two pay phones located in the South Campus Center, located behind UWMC.
The main number for UWMC – Roosevelt is 206.598.5700. Public telephones are in the lobby (first floor), including one that is TTY-accessible.
UWMC provides a variety of adaptive communication equipment for patients who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or who have other communication needs.
Interpreter Services and Teleservices have TTY machines to lend to patients who are at UWMC for an inpatient visit. A TTY is used by a deaf or hard-of-hearing patient to communicate with friends or contacts outside of the hospital. Contact Interpreter Services Monday through Friday (206.598.4425) or call Teleservices (598.6970) for more on use of TTY machines.
Waiting Rooms
Visitors' lounges are conveniently located near each inpatient nursing unit. Waiting rooms for patients and visitors are also available in the Emergency Department, in each outpatient clinic, and in the main lobby.
Family members or friends waiting for a patient in surgery may use the second floor surgery waiting lounge. Volunteers are typically at the information desk Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. They will tell waiting family members or friends when the patient is out of surgery and transferred to an inpatient room.
